This class is for those considering underwater photography or who have only just started and are overwhelmed or confused by all of the information and choices. We will cover the general principles of photographing in water, types of underwater photography, equipment needed for each of the various types, equipment care, different lighting options, and safety considerations. This course will not include any work IN the water, but will be more of a foundation for all of the information that is needed to be able to work in the water confidently. If there is time and interest, we will cover some basic editing concepts as well.

I am a portrait photographer and Photoshop painting artist located in Bellevue, Kentucky, just across the river from downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. I specialize in professional headshots, classic portraiture, and pet portraits, including mixed media painted portraits, having studied digital painting since 2019 with several noted teachers. I also do some event photography.
I continue to challenge myself to improve my work. While initially self-taught, since 2011 I have studied photography formally through classes, mentor programs, conferences, and workshops, having earned the designation of Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) and the Master of Photography, Master Artist, and Photographic Craftsman degrees through the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). I also serve on several committees of the American Society of Photographers.
My images have won awards at the state, district, and international level through the PPA and other organizations. Several of my images have been published, including in two Capture Cincinnati books and in the World Choir Games commemorative book.
I grew up in Newberry, SC, and graduated from Newberry College. I attended the Universities of Georgia, Cincinnati, and Kentucky for graduate degrees. I am a classically-trained musician, having spent most of my first career as a middle school music teacher. I play French horn in several local community ensembles and was a member of the Christ Church Cathedral Choir in Cincinnati for many years. I also am active in several other ministries at the cathedral.
My family currently consists of two rescued Pomeranians--Auggie and Leia.
